What is Kala Cotton?

Kala cotton is a rain-fed, organic cotton ( organic by nature) and is even more sustainable then your typical marketed "organic cotton" . This Cotton grows in the Kachchh (or Kutch) region of Gujarat, India.
It’s one of the oldest, most resilient forms of cotton indigenous to the Indian subcontinent.

Why it’s Special:

  • Grows without irrigation: It thrives in dry, arid conditions without needing synthetic inputs or extra water.
  • No pesticides or chemical fertilizers
  • Naturally pest-resistant and resilient: It can survive harsh climates, making it one of the most eco-friendly cotton varieties available.
  • Indigenous and ancestral: Kala cotton is part of ancient Indian agricultural traditions and has been cultivated for generations and this Kala cotton is bought straight from the creators of it

Cultural and Ethical Impact:

  • Sourcing Kala cotton supports indigenous farmers and traditional weavers in Gujarat.
  • Kala cotton fabrics are handwoven by artisan cooperatives, keeping craft heritage alive and craft economies thriving.
